A very spicy Yemenite chili paste made with a ton of cilantro, hot green chili peppers, garlic, and the signature flavor coming from a Yemenite spice blend called Hawayij which I grind and blend myself. I love love Zhug and you can't get this stuff anywhere which is why I started making it.

How to eat: Zhug is very spicy and very salty and is meant to be used as a seasoning, not to be eaten on it's own. It'll last for weeks in the fridge, add it to your sandwich, salad, rice, pasta, hummus and meat for an extra explosion of flavor and heat!

Made from: Cilantro, Green Chili Peppers, Organic Garlic, Fresh Lemon Juice, Coarse Sea Salt, Hawaij, Ginger.

Side Note: Please save and return the jar for me to sanitize and reuse on your next order pickup so we can together keep a small eco footprint !

I'm hooked!

I'm writing a second review just to say that I just picked up my second jar of the Zhug! I love it!

I want to put it on everything

This chili paste really adds amazing spicy flavor! It pairs well with the great Hearty Breads aioli on a slice of sourdough toast. I used it on sandwiches. I put it in chicken vegetable soup (chicken, tomato, cabbage, corn, onion, garlic). And a little goes a long way. About a 1/4 to 1/2 tsp on a slice of bread adds a nice warm spicy flavor.

Zhug is Ghud

Don’t think I was familiar with Zhug before I received a jar with my delicious Jerusalem bagels. If, like me, you haven’t had it, I’d describe it as a punch of flavor - a savory, herby, spicy knuckle punch, which is fitting, because if you don’t add the capital ‘Z’ to Zhug, autocorrect will call it to ‘thug’. And a thug it is. POW!
BTW - it’s super versatile on other things too. When my bagels were gone, I made a grilled ham and cheese sandwich with the Hearty Breads aioli and thug. Wow Pow!!!
